Zion Williamson REFUSES to confirm he will enter NBA Draft: A return to Duke next year? | Other | Sport

Williamson has lived up to and exceeded the hype in his debut season in college basketball with Duke.

The freshman averaged over 20 points in the regular season and took it to another level at the NCAA tournament, scoring over 100 points through four games.

But even his colossal-type performances were not enough to send Duke through to the Final Four.

They came up against a tough outfit in Michigan State, led by Cassius Winston.

It was a close-fought game throughout until the very last play, with Duke unable to get a bucket to tie the game.

Michigan State ultimately were able to run the clot down for the buzzer, sending them to the Final Four and Duke home.

It is expected this Duke team will be torn up after the tournament with at least four players supposedly to declare for the NBA Draft.

RJ Barrett, Tre Jones and Cam Reddish are all projected to be top-20 picks.

But it is Williamson who is considered the outstanding consensus No 1 pick.

Players still have to declare for the draft in the next month and there have been some instances in the past where those expected to leave college, instead opt to stay.

And Williamson was not ready to confirm whether he would choose to be in the 2019 draft, although he said there was “obviously a high chance”.

“You got seniors and other players who can potentially go pro, so each year, especially coming to Duke, you gotta enjoy being with that group because it changes every year,” Williamson said.

“We’re very upset obviously because we wanted to go to the Final Four, but congrats to Michigan State.

“They deserved it. They played a hell of a game.

“You just look around the locker room and see your teammates and your brothers and you just think this group will probably never going to play together again.”
