Winds of Winter: Is THIS why Game of Thrones book release date is STILL delayed? | Books | Entertainment

The next part of A Song Of Ice And Fire has been a long time in the making: its predecessor came out in 2011.

George RR Martin has confirmed recently that he is currently completely focussed on getting the new tome ready for publication.

But as the wait for a release date continues still, could the fact that there’s only one more novel left in the saga after The Winds of Winter make things extra complicated?

In a post that has been upvoted by 95% of users, Reddit user Icarus649 sparked a discussion about the hype for the next book.

“[I don’t know] about you guys but as I’m watching this final season the only thing that I can think about after finishing an episode is how badly I want TWOW,” they wrote.

“If indeed the book does come out shortly after season 8 finishes or even in the next year I can see its sales being massive.

“Like I definitely never thought my hype for the book could be this much before but even as this season is happening I just really need the next book.”

Among the replies, one person pointed out: “I mean I know it sounds optimistic but George definitely sees this as his masterpiece and if I was him, I’d want the ideas at least to be totally solid and decided on for the last book before publishing the second to last.

“To the point of having rough drafts done for the final book to make sure they all work and not changing his mind again.

“It’s 50/50 if he’s been working that way but it would explain the absurd amount of time it’s taking to get TWoW out.

“And it would mean the wait for the last one would be significantly shorter.”

The user, Gunslingermomo, added: “Also, I know at the pace of the last two books it would be impossible to finish in two more books but even the sample chapters we’ve been given, which are early in the book obviously, they are much faster paced.

“So I think if all of TWoW is like that it could be done in two books.

“Especially since George seems motivated to get to an ending.”

Game of Thrones’ TV show, which eclipsed the storylines of the books some time ago, continues on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.

Its current eighth season is confirmed to be its last, although a prequel series is in the works.
