According to Trump Golf Count, Trump has spent a total of 87 days at a golf course called Mar-a-Lago which have cost more than $60million. The US President makes regular weekend trips to golf courses in Palm Beach, Florida and Bedminster, New Jersey. The cost of the 24 flights to Mar-a-Lago have cost an estimated $46million (£35m), and the cost of the 19 flights to Bedminster have cost an estimated $14million (£11m).

Meanwhile, the cost to guard coast off Mar-a-Lago is around $21million (£16million) and the costs to Bedminster and Palm Beach are around $14million (£11million).

Finally, the cost of Trump’s stay at Turnberry, Scotland is around $68,800 (£52,940) and the luxury car rental is around $1.3million (£970,000).

The site also estimated that Trump will visit golf clubs 299 times within a four-year period from 2016.

In eight years, this could amount to 598.

Former US president Barack Obama played golf an estimated 306 times during his eight-year presidency.

Security costs to local governments in Florida and New Jersey are budgeted at $6.4million (£5m) per year and are reimbursed by the Federal Government which are included in the estimates on a prorated basis.

However, even though the amounts appear exact these numbers are based on imprecise estimates.

Some estimates are modelled on a Government Accountability Office report which details costs incurred by the Departments of Defence and Homeland Security trips Trump made to Mar-a-Lago in early 2017.

Other estimates are based on reports from the Washington Post and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In 2016, Trump stated: “I’m going to be working for you. I’m not going to have time to go play golf.”

Each “visit” is included in the estimates when the White House press reports that the President is visiting a location whose primary offering is golf.

However, evening visits are not counted but a full day spent at Bedminster is counted as a separate visit.
