Queen Elizabeth allows just one royal to Balmoral hideaway but it’s NOT Prince Philip

As the head of the British Royal Family, it won’t come as a surprise that Queen Elizabeth has an array of homes in the UK. As her main residence, and with the incredible building being in the capital of the UK, much has been heard about the 92-year-old’s London residence, Buckingham Palace. And, come wintertime, many royal fans will be well aware that she and the family head to the monarch’s Sandringham Estate. During her Norfolk visits, the mother-of-four spends time at the private Royal Residence, Sandringham House.

Meanwhile in Scotland, the monarch owns Balmoral Castle, within the Balmoral Estate.

About a mile away from the historic build is Craigowan Lodge – which is where Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana stayed during part of their honeymoon.

In comparison to the Aberdeenshire castle, this home is relatively modest.

Nevertheless, it’s certainly still a very impressive residence – boasting seven-bedrooms and located on the edge of a forest.

According to the Daily Mail, this spot is a place that the Queen heads to several times a year.

The publication suggested that she spends her time reading, writing letters, walking, and riding in the local area.

This secluded spot remains a retreat of calm and quietness where the Queen can seek solitude, reports suggest.

However, while the Queen is thought to head to the getaway for some time alone, it seems she will only invite one member of the Royal Family to join her.

Interestingly, this guest is not her husband Prince Philip, 97, nor one of her four children: Prince Charles, 70, Princess Anne, 68, Prince Andrew, 59, and Prince Edward, 55.

Rather, the Daily Mail reported back in 2016 that it is the Queen’s niece, Lady Sarah Chatto, who scores an invitation to accompany her to this particular royal property.

Lady Sarah Chatto, 54, is the daughter of the late Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones.

She is currently 23rd in the line of succession to the British throne.

A non-working royal, Lady Sarah is a professional painter, who exhibits under her maiden name, Sarah Armstrong-Jones.

As well as producing award-winning work, the royal spends some of her time fulfilling her duties as the Vice President of the Royal Ballet.

The Queen’s husband Prince Philip took on a touching role during the wedding of Princess Margaret and Antony.

The royal accompanied his sister-in-law as she walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey back in 1960.
