He has been welcomed with a traditional Karanga at a Maori welcoming ceremony.

The Duke of Cambridge will be attending Auckland’s civic centre to pay his respects to Anzac veterans.

He is in New Zealand for two days on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II.

12.49am update: The Duke bows his head for a minute’s silence

William bowed his head as prayers were said for those who lost their lives in the Christchurch and Sri Lanka terrorist attacks.

Poppies and wreaths have been laid at the cenotaph at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

William sang national athems from the UK, Australia and New Zeland with leaders.

12.35am update: Prince William lays a wreath at the cenotaph

The Duke of Cambridge laid a wreath at the cenotaph with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Giving an address, Rear Admiral James Gilmour, Commander Joint Forces New Zealand, said New Zealand was still coming to terms with the mosque shootings.

“As a nation, we are still grieving the loss and the fact that this happened,” he said.

“The people of Christchurch will be experiencing this cruel nightmare.”

William laid a wreath at the cenotaph before Ms Ardern and Auckland mayor Phil Goff did the same.
