CEBU CITY, Philippines – Authorities seized around P4.4 million worth of marijuana plants at 6:30 pm in Toledo City, Cebu, on Wednesday, June 26.

“Three cultivators were able to elude arrest when they sensed the team approaching the uphill terrain,” the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Central Visayas said in a Facebook post.

Personnel from the Naval Forces Central Central Command and the Cebu Provincial Police Office aided PDEA during the “marijuana eradication” operations in a mountainous village in Toledo City. (READ: Duterte says he’ll never legalize medical marijuana)

The team uprooted “approximately 11,000 fully-grown marijuana plants” in Purok 3, Barangay Tungkay, which is about 28 kmeters away from Cebu City.

“Representative samples of the uprooted marijuana were submitted to PDEA 7 laboratory while the rest were burned on-site,” PDEA Central Visayas said. (READ: Legalizing medical marijuana: ‘Listen to patients’)

PDEA Central Visayas said a case will be filed against the 3 suspects for violating Section 16 Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. Rappler.com
