That is according to Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague.

Pogba has enjoyed his best season for Manchester United since returning in 2016, bagging 11 goals and assists apiece in the Premier League.

The World Cup winner has excelled since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was appointed permanent manager last week.

Despite Pogba’s emergence as a senior figure this term, the rumour will has been spinning on his future.

“He wasn’t saying they are going to go for him, but it was a clear admission on Pogba,” Balague said.

“Why did he talk about him? He’s got absolutely no need to do so. I think it’s genuinely because he thinks Pogba will be a great addition to Real Madrid.

“But does that mean that they want him? He wants him, and he’s now becoming like sporting director. But they cannot spend £500m on the player.”

Despite the perceived interest from both parties, United hold rank in the situation, as Balague went on to explain.

“Two things from Manchester United’s side… One is he’s not for sale, they’re not selling him. That’s it. They don’t walk to talk about it either,” the journalist added.

“Two, there is no buy-out clause in his contract. Which means to get him you need to convince Manchester United, who don’t want to sell.

“So what’s happening is Real Madrid are playing for absolutely nothing and they just want to distract the attention.

“The Pogba story won’t die but Manchester United are not selling.”
