Manchester United chief Woodward has finally worn Crystal Palace down on Wan-Bissaka, with the 21-year-old primed to complete a move to Old Trafford.

The right-back is wanted to replace club captain Antonio Valencia, who is on his way out after a decade of service.

Manchester United also believe Wan-Bissaka will be an upgrade on Ashley Young, who struggled at times as the club missed out on a place in the top four.

Solskjaer and Woodward are now turning to other targets as they aim to make a flying start next season.

And the Evening Standard say United are expected to bid for Longstaff imminently.

The Newcastle star has drawn comparisons with Red Devil icons Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick across his career so far.

Solskjaer feels he can be a suitable replacement for Ander Herrera, who is on his way to PSG.

And Newcastle now face a fight to keep hold of the youngster with United expected to accelerate a potential transfer.

The Evening Standard add that Solskjaer also wants a centre-back with Harry Maguire in the frame.

And more transfers could depend on Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, with the duo wanted by Real Madrid and Inter Milan respectively.

Meanwhile, pundit Danny Mills has expressed disbelief at United for targeting Longstaff – when they already have Scott McTominay.

He told Football Insider: |Why are they interested in Longstaff when they have McTominay? It makes no sense.

“Surely they would be buying like-for-like. Is Longstaff better than McTominay? I’m not sure he is.

“I don’t see what Longstaff would add to Man United.

“The club’s transfer policy just seems a little bit slapdash. I don’t even understand what their policy is.

“Sure, they’re trying to buy young players with potential. But they already have a decent young central midfielder.”

United could end up paying £18m for Longstaff to make him their third recruit of the summer.

Wan-Bissaka will move to Old Trafford shortly, two weeks after the Red Devils landed Daniel James from Swansea.
