Klay Thompson to Lakers: Warriors star’s dad drops huge revelation about free agency move | Other | Sport

Mychal Thompson is a Lakers legend who won two titles in L.A. back in the 1980’s.

And with a son who is consistently linked with a move back home to the Lakers, it’s hard not to see the attraction for Klay Thompson.

Klay has made clear over the past 12 months that he wants to remain with the Golden State Warriors.

But the decision may ultimately not be in his hands, with both DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant also set to enter free agency at the end of the season.

Cousins is unlikely to be re-signed, but both Thompson and Durant will command max contracts, which could prove too costly for the defending champion.

That has led to further rumours about the Lakers possibly making a move for Thompson.

The 29-year-old is arguably the best catch-and-shoot player in the league and would work well alongside LeBron James.

But Mychal Thompson, who currently works on the radio broadcast for the team doesn’t think his son will be going anywhere.

“He’ll be happy here, he loves the good weather,” Mychal told Kyle Goon of the OC Register.

“I always tell him when he’s retired, he’ll have another 40 years to spend here.

“He’s in no rush to get back.”

He added: “Ultimately it’s a compliment: Lakers fans want him to play here.

“But I don’t think that way.

“I think the Lakers are gonna be fine.

“I don’t see Klay coming out here as a saviour.”
