United are set to embark on a new era under Solskjaer with the Norwegian now making the most of the opportunity to freshen up the squad Jose Mourinho left behind.

James has already arrived at Old Trafford in a deal worth an initial £15m, with Swansea potentially set to receive a further £3m in add-ons.

Manchester United have now struck up a £50m agreement with Palace for Wan-Bissaka to swap south London for the north west before the start of next season.

And he is poised to undergo a medical at the Red Devils’ Carrington training base before putting pen to paper on a mega £80,000-a-week long-term deal.

James and Wan-Bissaka will not be the only new faces through the door at United before the new Premier League season kicks off in August.

Express Sport understands Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to recruit a new top-level centre-back to marshal his defence going forward.

Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly look increasingly unlikely to head to United, but a deal could be sealed for Toby Alderweireld.

The Tottenham ace is available for just £25m due to a contract clause and fits the criteria of being an experience, high-class defender.

Slightly further forward, United may be in the market for a couple of dynamic midfielders, particularly if wantaway Paul Pogba goes.

Bruno Fernandes, who shot to fame at Sporting Lisbon thanks to his goalscoring exploits last season, is on United’s hit list.

Youri Tielemans, fresh from a loan stint at Leicester, is another option to give United some oomph in the centre of the park.

James is expected to have a bit-part role to begin with as he makes the step up from the Championship to the Premier League.

He might, however, form part of a new-look front three alongside Mauro Icardi and United academy product Marcus Rashford.

United are understood to have the option to trade Inter Milan hitman Icardi for Romelu Lukaku, who is desperate to move to Italy.

The Serie A hotshot could form a lethal front-three with James and Rashford, who could equally replace Lukaku through the middle.

Elsewhere in the team, David de Gea will retain his place in goal, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw will make up the left side of the back four and Matic will shield the defence.

Potential Man Utd line up: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Alderweireld, Lindelof, Shaw, Matic, Fernandes, Tielemans, James, Icardi, Rashford
