MANILA, Philippines – It seems that the timeless coming-of-age teen comedy genre is here to stay, but who’s complaining?

Definitely not fans of the 2010 hit teen romcom Easy A.

According to a Variety report, film studio ScreenGems announced that a sequel to the snarky comedy starring Emma Stone is on the way, almost 10 years after its premiere.

ScreenGems has tapped Easy A’s original screenwriter Bert Royal to pen the script, as well as to direct, making the Easy A sequel his first ever directing gig. Zanne Devine will also be returning to executive produce.

No specific plot details have been revealed, but it has been said that the spinoff sequel will be shot in the same setting and school as the first film. It will still focus on realistic themes of adoloscence, sexuality, and finding one’s identity amid the crazy world of high school, according to a Screenrant report.

The still-untitled sequel will introduce a new set of characters, as it isn’t likely that Emma Stone will be returning.

Deemed one of the more successful teen comedies in 2010, Easy A made it big, earning $75 million worldwide on just an $8-million production budget. Emma Stone, who played the lead Olive Penderghast, was a low-key, goodie-two-shoes teenager who, to gain more popularity, took on a fake “bad girl” image by going along with the school’s nasty rumor mill.

Easy A also starred Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Aly Michalka, Dan Byrd, and Lisa Kudrow. It was directed by Will Gluck. –
