California airport crash: Plane smashes into Fullerton airport runway causing fireball | World | News

The aeroplane smashed into the runway at Fullerton Airport in Orange County, Los Angeles. Emergency services are currently on the scene. Reports state the plane was a twin-engine aircraft.

Although it is yet unknown what caused the crash, the aeroplane reportedly came down close to the airport’s runway.

Emergency services on the scene reported the aircraft was still ablaze for some time but has now been extinguished. 

There have been no reports of casualties at this time.

While the cause of the crash is not yet known, according to ABC 7, a large explosion was heard.

The fire has apparently completely destroyed the plane which caught fire as it hurtled towards the ground.

Local Fullerton police confirmed the crash and asked the public to stay away from the area.

Californian-based journalist, Jack Noyes confirmed the details in a tweet.

Mr Noyles said: “A twin-engine plane has caught fire and crashed at or near the Fullerton Airport in Orange County.”

While it is unknown if there were any casualties from the crash, it is also unknown how many were onboard the plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently looking into the accident.

The crash occurred at 8.00pm local time (04.00am BST).

This is the most notable crash at the airport since 2004 when a plane crashed during an airport exhibition.
