Rep. Jordan Demands DHS Documents That Allegedly Warned Biden Of Border Consequences
Republican Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Tom McClintock (R-CA) sent a letter to Biden DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas demanding documents that purportedly warned the administration about the fallout of reversing former President Donald Trump’s border policies.
The letter from the congressman accuses the Biden administration of refusing to “accept responsibility for the growing humanitarian and security crisis.”
“This refusal to accept responsibility is startling in light of a news report that suggests the Biden Administration was warned that reversing President Trump’s successful immigration policies would lead to a surge at the border,” they wrote.
“We write to request documentation relating to these warnings.”

Trump DHS: We Warned Biden About Reversing Border Policies
The letter is referencing a report by NPR in which former acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf claimed officials from the Trump administration had warned that a reversal of Trump’s policies would exacerbate the border crisis.
“CBP would tell them and, in a sense, warn them, ‘If you remove this … this is the consequence for that. We will see a significant uptick,’ ” Wolf said.

Jordan and McClintock’s letter demands “all documents and communications” exchanged between Trump’s DHS officials and the Biden transition team.
“Instead of heeding these warnings, President Biden signed several executive orders dismantling the Trump Administration’s immigration programs and policies,” they wrote.
“The reversal of President Trump’s successful immigration policies have created a tremendous incentive for illegal aliens to surge to the southern border,” it concludes.
“President Biden and his Administration are responsible for the resulting crisis at the border.”
The Biden Administration inherited effective policies and was warned that rolling them back would cause a surge – but they did it anyways.
They own this crisis.
They own the overcrowded facilities.
They own the unaccompanied children. https://t.co/tx3KyrjDc8

Going to Get Worse?
The letter demanding documents related to the Trump administration warning Biden about reversing the border policies references the fact that Mayorkas admitted the United States is on pace to see the most migrants breaching the border “in the last 20 years.”
What policies led us to this scenario?
- The Biden Administration stopped sending unaccompanied children back to Central and South America, a policy that Barack Obama endorsed in 2014.
- Biden ended the highly successful “Remain in Mexico” policy, creating an influx of migrants who believed the move meant the border was set to “reopen.”
- Biden put restrictions on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), leading to illegal immigrant arrests dropping sharply even as illegal crossings were skyrocketing.
- President Biden halted construction of the border wall, a move that an Arizona sheriff said weakens border security and benefits Mexican drug cartels.

It doesn’t seem as if Biden is going to evolve on the border crisis any time soon either.
A report by Fox News indicates the President is expected to allow a Trump-era guest worker pause to expire, an order which was designed “to protect American jobs during the economic crisis amid the coronavirus pandemic.”
“In order to ensure that we are hiring Americans first, we are putting a pause on certain non-immigrant visas into the United States,” a Trump official told Fox News at the time.
That order is expected to expire Wednesday.
A statement from Trump’s office last weekend excoriated President Biden for helping to create the border crisis and suggested the only way to stop it is by implementing the previous administration’s policies.
“The only way to end the Biden Border Crisis is for them to admit their total failure and adopt the profoundly effective, proven Trump policies,” the statement reads.
