When this happens, a person will be told, and their payment will be stopped.

Should a person’s earning decrease after this and they want to restart their Universal Credit payment, they will need to make a new Universal Credit claim online.

If a person’s monthly earnings are more than £2,500 over the amount where their payment stopped, this becomes “surplus earnings”.

The surplus earnings will be carried forward to the following month, where they count towards earnings.
